Xiaomi Smartwatch & Mi Band 2 Coming in Q2

It looks like the super cheap fitness tracker that is Xiaomi’s Mi Band 1S (that’s the 2nd edition one with the heartbeat sensor) will get an updated version in Q2 of this year, along with a much rumored smartwatch. Towards the end of last year, many fans online were clamoring for news of the Xiaomi smartwatch, but then everything died down and we were all left speculating if Xiaomi were going to really release one.

Xiaomi does not personally manufacture these Mi Band but leaves it to its partner company, Huami. Now, Huami’s CEO, Wang has revealed a few details about the second generation model of the Xiaomi Mi Band as well as Xiaomi smartwatch. It looks like, once again, Huami is manufacturing these two devices. CEO of Huami confirmed that both, the Mi Band 2 and the Xiaomi smartwatch will debut in the next two months, within Q2 2016. The new Mi Band will now have a small display. So, it looks like the Mi Band 2 will be able to show you a lot more information than its previous generation, modernizing it to be more inline with other branded fitness trackers such as the Fitbit.

As for pricing, the new Band will be slightly more expensive than the previous generation model, with the 1S retailing for RMD99. Another important information revealed by him was that the new version will abandon the “Mi” branding, being named as a Band 2.

CEO Wang also confirmed that a Xiaomi smartwatch with a display exists and will be released in Q2 2016. The smartwatch will feature a larger screen than the Band 2. No release date or detail to the functions of the smartwatch was confirmed.
