NVIDIA RTX 4060 is 20% faster than RTX 3060 without Frame Generation

The RTX 4060 launches on June 29th, exactly a week from now. The release date has been pushed forward from what was originally communicated as July. The pricing remains unchanged at $299, which is the cheapest desktop RTX 40 graphics card.

The official post claims that GeForce RTX 4060 will be 20% faster than RTX 3060 in games without Frame Generation, a technology used by DLSS3. With this technology enabled, the card should be up to 70% faster. Such a comparison makes no practical sense considering FG is not available in all games, especially the older ones which are more likely to be played with entry-level GPUs.

NVIDIA is also claiming that RTX 4060 non-Ti should be 60% faster than RTX 2060 and up to 8x faster than GTX 1060. The last part sounds a bit absurd, but this comparison assumes that DLSS is used with hardware that supports it (so also DLSS1 and 2), the GTX 1060 simply does not support any version.

NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 is also a desktop card with the lowest power requirements in the whole lineup. With only 110W of average gaming power consumption (115W TDP), it should consume around 2.2 kWh per week, which is less than RTX 3060 170W at 3.5 kWh.

The company is providing an estimated power and cost saving by transitioning to RTX 4060 from 3060 at $29-$54 for US household, $65-$130 for UK and $66-$132 for Germany. Those savings were calculated for a 4-year period assuming 20 hours per week of gaming.

The RTX 4060 features an AD107-300 GPU with 3072 CUDA cores, 8GB GDDR6 memory and a 128-bit memory bus. This model features PCIe Gen4 x8 interface, which may be a bottleneck on older Gen3 platforms.
