Schenker Unveils XMG APEX 16 MAX Gaming Notebook

The XMG APEX 16 MAX is a price-performance-focused 16-inch entry in the upper performance class of the XMG portfolio. The base configuration with GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is available for under €2,000. Positioned as the AMD-based counterpart to the equally affordable XMG PRO 16 Value Edition with Intel CPUs, the laptop is equipped with either a Ryzen 9 8940HX or 9955HX. Key features include 1600p displays with a 300 Hz refresh rate and full DCI-P3 color space coverage, available as either a 500-nit IPS panel or a 1,000-nit Mini LED option. In addition to the extensive connectivity options typical of XMG, the freely configurable laptop supports up to 96 GB of RAM and up to 16 TB of SSD storage.

With the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with 12 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, the XMG APEX 16 MAX (M25) integrates the most attractive of the three most capable graphics chips in terms of price-performance ratio, delivering ample power for gaming with high frame rates on the laptop’s 1600p display. The GPU operates continuously at NVIDIA’s specified maximum graphics performance of 140 watts, including 25 watts of Dynamic Boost.

Both available AMD processors also run at very high power limits: the choice lies between the Fire Range Ryzen 9 9955HX and the Dragon Range Refresh Ryzen 9 8940HX, each offering 16 cores and 32 threads.

The APEX 16 MAX employs a composite heat pipe cooling system with two 80 mm fans, two rear air outlets with a total of 150 copper cooling fins, and phase-change Honeywell PTM7958 thermal pads. Fresh air is drawn in through both the underside of the chassis and the keyboard area. Overall, this design ensures consistently high performance from all installed components:

  • Ryzen 9 9955HX: peak / sustained 135 W (up to 3 min) / 130 W
  • GeForce RTX 5070 Ti: sustained 140 W
  • CPU & GPU: sustained 205 W

The APEX 16 MAX chassis measures 356.7 × 253.8 × 26 mm, with a display lid made of aluminium. Including the 99.8 Wh battery, the laptop weighs 2.45 kg with the IPS display or 2.6 kg with the Mini LED display. Depending on the configuration, it comes with either a 240-watt or a 280-watt power supply, with models featuring the optional Mini LED display supplied with the more powerful unit.

IPS or Mini LED Display with 1600p Resolution, 300 Hz, and 100 Percent DCI-P3
The 16-inch IPS and optional Mini LED panels both feature a resolution of 2,560 × 1,600 pixels, a refresh rate of 300 Hz, and 100 percent coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. Factory-calibrated color profiles can be accessed via the XMG Control Center, along with optional 240 Hz and 60 Hz modes for more energy-efficient operation. While the IPS display offers a brightness of 500 nits, the Mini LED version is significantly brighter, reaching 750 nits in SDR mode and 1,000 nits in HDR mode. Local dimming can be disabled.

Two M.2 SSDs and up to 96 GB DDR5 Memory
The APEX 16 MAX is equipped with two M.2 SSD slots supporting up to 16 TB of storage, with the primary slot connected via PCI Express 5.0 x4. In addition, two SO-DIMM sockets provide plugged-in, upgradeable RAM.

The maximum memory capacity depends on the selected CPU, as specified by AMD: with the Ryzen 9 9955HX, up to 96 GB DDR5-5600 is supported, while the Ryzen 9 8940HX allows a maximum of 64 GB DDR5-5200. XMG is currently evaluating whether larger RAM configurations can be approved and offered for the entry-level CPU following the product launch. For improved cooling, both SSD slots are fitted with heatshields and thermal pads.

Flexible Connectivity Including Native Support for Four External Monitors
XMG has once again positioned many of the external ports on the back of the APEX 16 MAX. These include HDMI 2.1 with 48 Gbps, a DP80-compatible Mini DisplayPort 2.1, the power supply connection, and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with integrated DisplayPort 1.4a and 140 watts Power Delivery (20 V, 7 A).

The ports on the sides of the laptop comprise another USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort 1.4a and 100 watts Power Delivery, three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a fast SD Express-compatible card reader for full-size memory cards, a 2-in-1 audio jack for headset and microphone, and a 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 network port. Wireless connectivity is provided via Wi-Fi 6E.

Thanks to its wide range of video interfaces, the laptop supports native output to up to four external monitors in addition to its internal display. Mini DisplayPort and HDMI are connected directly to the NVIDIA dGPU for maximum performance, while the DisplayPort functions of the two USB-C ports are routed via the energy-efficient iGPU of the AMD processor.

Keyboard with RGB Per-Key Lighting and N-key Rollover
The keyboard of the XMG APEX 16 MAX is identical to that of many other XMG laptops from the 2025 model generation, including the NEO 16, CORE 16 and PRO 16. It therefore provides the full range of features, including RGB per-key backlighting, anti-ghosting and N-key rollover, a full-size numeric keypad, offset full-size arrow keys, an FN lock function, and the improved scissor-switch mechanisms beneath the concave keycaps.

Alongside the large 123 x 77.5 mm glass-like Mylar touchpad – with gliding characteristics comparable to glass touchpads and also used in many other XMG laptops – the APEX 16 MAX integrates a Full HD webcam with a physical privacy shutter at the top of the display.
