Patriot Viper 64GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive Review

Performance

All who are following our reviews already know that maximum performance of storage devices depends from storage controller. In this case we had to use Intel X99 motherboard with Intel USB 3.0 controller to achieve max bandwidth. Depends from used computer, maximum results were between 280 and 420MB/s so we picked the best results for you.

Presented results were made on a desktop computer with i7 5800K and ASUS X99 Rampage V Extreme motherboard.

Let’s begin with ATTO as we usually do.

Quick look at the specifications page and we see that Patriot declared read bandwidth up to 385MB/s. Surprise, we could reach 400MB/s in ATTO without any problems ! On the other hand write performance is a bit disappointing considering so high read. It’s not so important as data is cached so we won’t see special difference but still it counts if we move a lot of large data.

Next test is CrystalDiskMark.

In CrystalDiskMark we can see two things. First is that maximum sequential bandwidth is even higher and it’s reaching 420MB/s! Second is that random read performance is also great for a flash drive. Simply amazing for so small storage device.

Also in this case write bandwidth could be higher but as I already said, we can live with that.

Now it’s time for Anvil’s Storage Utilities where we can see similar bandwidth tests but based on a different test files.

Anvil’s benchmark is just confirming great performance of Patriot Viper flash drive. Also here we could see maximum read performance of about 400MB/s. Write is again at about 10% of read performance what isn’t bad. It just looks low comparing to read.

General performance is great and I think that all who decide to buy this flash drive will be satisfied. Once again I will say that write bandwidth isn’t really important for devices like flash drives so I wouldn’t worry about the high difference between read and write bandwidth.
