Deepcool Neptwin Dual-Tower Heatsink Review

Initial Thoughts

When it comes to buying new hardware, nothing puts your mind at ease quite like solid packaging.  Neptwin has done an extremely thorough job keeping the box safe from the elements or any hard knocks, and they also made near-perfect use of space.  Everything is as it should be without a bunch of bubble-wrap.

But perhaps more imporant is the instruction manual which, in the case of the Deepcool, is, as you can see, folded neatly with the Intel section on top and AMD on bottom, and that also applies to the non-English sections.

Closer Look

Ahh yes, my favorite aspect: the accessories.  Maybe it’s just me, but I have a pretty thin margin for what I consider to be an excess.  Now I’m well aware that the reason there’s sometimes a toy-chest full of parts is because they want to be all-inclusive, but I don’t mind saying that it can be overwhelming to keep track of, especially if you’re new(-ish) to aftermarket cooling.  However, the Deepcool does make better use of the parts and it’s pretty effortless to secure to the backplate.  For one thing, you don’t need a mini-screwdriver to reach the screws; the bracket bolts are nicely designed and can be easily fastened with just your index finger and thumb.

And on that note installation was suprisingly less painful than it first looked.  Neptwin was kind enough to ship a fan cable splitter with more than enough room for all your fans which really saves a lot of heart -and head- ache on routing.  But again, the fans do come with metal clips instead of pegs.  You all probably know what I think of this particular setup.  To briefly reiterate: they just can’t seem to stay still, and that’s really annoying when one of the fans is meant to be sandwiched between the heatsinks.  And again, I can’t help but feel they could be a bit shorter.  I’m always afraid they’ll pop off.  But keep in mind, I’m not an expert engineer so feel free to take that with a grain of salt.
