DJI Osmo Mobile Gimbal Stabilizer Review

In Action

One of the first things you will need to do to start recording with the DJI Osmo Mobile (apart from charging the battery up) is to download the DJI GO app onto your smartphone, which is available on both iOS App Store and Google Play. At the time of writing there are no apps available for other smartphone OS such as Windows.

With the first use of the DJI GO app you will need to register an account with DJI which will also activate the 1 year warranty you will get for the Osmo Mobile. Connection is quickly established via BlueTooth. After that you will get some quick calibration instructions, taking less than a few minutes, and after that you’re away to go!

All the buttons on the handle are very responsive with not much lag. Pressing the shutter button instantly instructs your phone to take a photo, and panning around with the joystick really is a joy…..the panning is done in a smooth way so that you don’t blur your recordings.

The DJI GO app provides not only the ability to take photos and videos, but has added features such as timelapse and face detection. I haven’t had to time to play with the timelapse feature, but the face detection works very well with both the front and rear cameras on my phone, following the subject’s face tightly.

Out and about, the DJI Osmo Mobile coped very well with my knocks and bumps, with the test videos coming out silky smooth. I did find that whenever I was going through uneven surfaces I would get some bumps in the videos.

I’ll hope to add some of the videos we shot to this review at a later date. In the meantime I’ll leave you with another of the DJI’s promo videos to illustrate how smooth a video footage can be shot with the Osmo Mobile.
