The Laptop Itself
The MSI PS63 Modern 8RC measures 356.8 x 233.7 x 15.9mm in dimension, and weighs in at only 1.6 kg (3.52lbs). It’s pretty light-weight for a 15.6-inch laptop, and it’s super thin at 15.9mm thick.
For cooling, you’ll MSI’s exclusive Cooler Boost 3 Technology with 2 dedicated fans and 3 heat pipes. This should provide more than adequate cooling. The Cooling/exhaust vents can be found on the underside the laptop as well as on the back. The 720p webcam is located on the top side of the monitor bezel, which is only 5.6mm in thickness.
A Closer Look
The laptop is armed with a GeForce GTX 1050 with 4GB of GDDR5 ram, however it’s the MaxQ version which may impact its overall graphics performance. Having said that, it’s one of those compromises you have to make if you want a super thin laptop.
For connectivity, you get 1 x 3.5mm jack for headphone/mic-in combo, as well as 1 x micro SD Card slot, 1 x HDMI, 1 x USB 3.1 gen 1 (Type-A and Type-C) and 2 x USB 3.1 gen 1 ports. Sadly, there is no gigabit ethernet LAN port. You also get a 720p @30 fps webcam which can be found on the top side of the bezel.
Power button is located at the center of the laptop above the keyboard, while the finger print reader is integrated within the large trackpad.
