G.Skill Ripjaws4 16GB DDR4-2666 CL15 1.2V Memory Review

Conclusion

Once again when I received G.Skill memory then I had high expectations. Also this time I’m not disappointed. Ripjaws 4 offer high performance which is limited only by CPU’s cache speed. It’s actually the only disappointment that I could see during the tests. Memory could offer higher bandwith but CPU architecture is not letting to show it.

Since I started this conclusion from memory performance then I have to say a word about overclocking. Afterall Ripjaws 4 is memory series dedicated for gamers and enthusiasts who often try to optimize hardware even more. Ripjaws 4 DDR4-2666 C15 memory doesn’t look any special when we check specification but I can assure you that this memory has much more to offer. In my tests I was able to set DDR4-3000 clock for longer and more demanding tests and maximum clock of over 1700MHz ( DDR4-3400 ) for quick tests. simply great results.

G.Skill used not so tall aluminum heatspreaders for Ripjaws 4 that shouldn’t interfere with large CPU coolers. I won’t hide I’m not the fan of the stickers on the heatsinks and I’d rather see logo cut with laser but I assume it would raise the price what most users wouldn’t like to see.

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB DDR4-2666 C15 1.2V can be found in online stores like Amazon for about $330. It’s not a low price for a desktop memory but at the same time quite reasonable comparing it to other memory kits available on the market. It’s not much higher than most brands ask for DDR4-2133 kits and much lower than most DDR4-3000 so I can only say it’s really worth it if you are looking for DDR4 memory.

Pros:

  • High performance
  • Good looks
  • Flawless work
  • Reasonable price
  • Great overclocking potential

Cons:

  • None worth to mention

Final words:

The same as with previous DDR4 kits, also here it’s hard to recommend X99 platform to every user. Most gamers will be more than fine with Z97 motherboards and DDR3 memory but all those who decided to move to the DDR4 memory, just have to think about G.Skill Ripjaws 4. Right now G.Skill DDR4 memory offers the highest performance and at the same time, price is well balanced. If we add great G.Skill support and stylish module design then we get probably the best DDR4 memory available on our market nowadays that should be the first pick for all gamers and computer enthusiasts who moved to the latest Intel X99 platform.
