Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB DDR4-2666 CL15 Memory Kit Review

Performance

HyperX FURY 2666 spec2

Test setup contains our usual DDR4 test motherboard which is ASUS Rampage V Extreme and i7 5820K which is the most popular enthusiast series processor. One more advantage of using i7 5820K is that more our readers can compare their results on a home computers.

Additionally processor has been overclocked to 4.2GHz and cache frequency to 3.5GHz what helps to notice differences in performance much easier. These clocks are also easy to achieve on any X99 motherboard.

Now let’s move to the tests.

HyperX FURY 2666 AIDA64

AIDA64 is always our first test. It shows memory and cache bandwidth but we will focus on memory speed. HyperX FURY DDR4-2666 performance is good and even better than Corsair memory which has exactly the same specification. There are of course faster memory kits as we see but all of them cost more while performance differenct isn’t so big.

AIDA64 was showing us multi-threaded performance while MaxxMem Preview base only on single-threaded tests. We we see that HyperX FURY offers great performance considering it doesn’t have the highest frequency. Here also difference in results isn’t really high but we can clearly see which memory is faster. On the top is again HyperX Predator DDR4-3000 memory.

HyperX FURY 2666 HPI32

HyperPi 32M likes fast memory and we can see some advantages of higher frequency or tighter memory timings but I think we still could achieve more raising cache frequency as results are clearly limited. HyperX Predator DDR4-3000 memory has higher frequency and lower latency what gives couple of seconds better time in this test.

Rendering tests also look good and HyperX FURY DDR4-2666 is nearly as fast as higher memory kits. One more time it’s faster than Corsair Vengeance memory kit which we can find in slightly higher price in most online stores.

HyperX FURY 2666 PCM8

Results in PCMark8 are showing us the same situation as we could see in other tests. Once again HyperX FURY performs good and we had no problems during this long benchmark. HyperX FURY DDR4-2666 Results are actually not much lower than the fastest memory in our comparison. It just shows it’s well balanced memory which probably has some overclocking potential.

Overclocking

Overclocking is never guaranteed so the presented results may vary from results on other memory kits. I am not recommending overclocking if you do not know what are you doing. High voltages may damage hardware and it will not be covered by warranty.

Maximum stable settings possible on our test memory kit were DDR4-3200 CL15-15-15-35 1.35V so simply a great result as not many much more expensive DDR4 memory kits can run like that.

For the needs of this review we haven’t been setting much higher voltage as it’s not recommended for longer work but I’m sure this memory can make some more.

Kingston as probably the only memory manufacturer right now, is releasing new DDR4 memory kits on SKHynix IC. This type of memory can run at high frequency but also it’s possible to tighten the timings what gives us optimal performance not possible to achieve on competitive memory chips.

Maximum possible memory clock using four memory modules was DDR4-3333. However we couldn’t keep it stable during longer tests. It doesn’t matter it’s not possible but can take more time to find optimal sub timings. Below is screenshot from CPU-Z validation website. I think it’s pretty good for a DDR4-2666 memory kit to reach DDR4-3333 frequency.

Except presented results we can also expect this memory to run at DDR4-2666 15-15-15 1.20V and 3000 15-15-15 1.30V. Simply best performance available at low voltage.
