Mi Air Purifier 2 Review

Mi Air Purifier 2 In Action

Plugging the Mi Air Purifier 2 into the mains socket wasn’t a problem, but I would have preferred to have the electrical power cord that was supplied to have been a little bit longer.  The length provided restricted where I could put the Mi Air Purifier 2 without the use of an extension cable, but to those that are critical to aesthetics, the minimal length of cord is just that much more pleasing on the eye and easier to hide.

Placement of the Mi Air Purifier 2 is key, so you don’t want to block of much of all 4 sides of it or too close to something over the top of it will reduce the air flow and thus the size of the room it can filter. With my dog wandering about the house, I didn’t want to place it on the floor, and settled for a spot on top of a short cabinet with about a meter of room above the air outlet at the top of the unit.

Set to auto, the fan is hardly audible with my air-conditioning unit much much louder. With the fan set to max, there is definitely fan noise, but you will not need it at the maximum setting all that much in its lifetime, just the odd few minutes to quickly clean the air in your room.

When I started up the Mi Air Purifier 2 for the first time, letting it run for about 5 minutes, I had a read of 50 from the Mi Home app, as shown on the previous page. Lighting up a cigarette and blowing the smoke directly at the Mi Air Purifier 2, and the reading quickly climbed to 176, definitely not good for my lungs….!

A quick 30 seconds blast of the fan at maximum speed, and then letting the Mi Air Purifier 2 run on auto for 5 minutes, and the reading had dropped and stabilized at only 9 on the Mi Home app. Impressive.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 is just not that intrusive and wouldn’t look out of place in any room, be it an office, bedroom, living room or kitchen. The design of the Mi Air Purifier 2 doesn’t scream “look at me!”, and just sits discreetly on the top of my cabinet. The LEDs on the Mi Air Purifier 2 glows warmly so that they don’t seem intrusive and glare when you glance at them for the latest air quality status. The unit itself is very sturdy, and is not too heavy, making it easy for you to move about in your home to find the perfect spot to locate it.

Rated as able to clean the air in a room with a maximum size of nearly 40 square meters, my living room being an elongated and just under 20 square meters, the Mi Air Purifier 2 coped brilliantly. The real test will be after I do some cooking in the open kitchen that I have to see how quickly the Mi Air Purifier 2 can clean up the air afterwards, so I will be coming back to this review from time to time to update you all.

Hi – great review thanks. Just wondering – did you ever test it with cooking in the kitchen? Also, what AQI meter are you using and what scale does the Xiaomi Air Purifier air quality readings relate to?
