Overclocking, Overclocked Benchmarks

First a standardized disclaimer: Overclocking can and will void the warranties on your computer’s parts and may also cause them to fail prematurely, possibly instantly. Overclock at your own risk.

With that out of the way, this is how I tested the overclocking. I set the CPU vcore to 1.45v, as this is as high as I can recommend running it. I set VCCSA to 1.016v and VCCIO (also known as VTT) to 1.15v and the LLC to Level2. I then set the bclk as high as would work and started raising the multiplier. At the upper edge I found the ram to be unhappy at places it was happy on the other board and had to reduce the bclk significantly from the 104 I was expecting. On the plus side I was able to feed it more core multipliers to make up for this. The results are shown in the following shots:

Memory clocks are nothing special, but 4848MHz core frequency on 1.45 vcore (UEFI, 1.424 CPUz) is quite good, I have no complaints there! Now we’ll run the same benchmarks. This is somewhat higher than the Pro managed.

Wooha, those are some quick times! As a note, this means it took this setup 159 seconds to calculate the square root of numbers 1 through 1,024,000,000. That is a lot of numbers for well less than three minutes don’t you think?

Just shy of breaking into the six minute realm certainly isn’t bad. With ram at the speed and timings I wanted to run and the same CPU core speeds it’d be below 7 minutes.

The slower ram hurts here, but it is still a solid score.

 

All told the overclocking process went quite well, the UEFI is very nice to work with and has three spaces for saving overclocking profiles. Three is less than many boards, but unlike other boards the save/load options are right on the overclocking page, this is very nice.

The board was quite good at recovering from failed settings, with the exception of the ram CAS. Setting CAS to 7 at 2133MHz or higher resulted in infinite bootloops with the POST code LED hanging at “55” and plenty of beeping from the speaker. At RAM speeds over 2200MHz at CAS8 I got memory errors in SuperPi 32M, indicating that the overclock was not quite stable. I have had this ram stable at 2300MHz at CAS7, so I know it is not the RAM.
