Gigabyte Z790 AORUS PRO X Motherboard Review

Installation

As per usual, we used our vertical open chassis along with a Cooler Master PL240 Flux AIO cooler fitted with Cooler Master Halo white fans. Everything fitted nicely and we didn’t encounter any issues during installation.

BIOS

There are two BIOS modes on the Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Pro X motherboard … Easy Mode and Advanced Mode. The Easy Mode allows you can monitor all the system status on this page such as fan speeds, CPU temperatures, memory and processor speeds, as well as voltages.

During our tests, we left everything on AUTO/Default. All we did was to make sure that XMP was enabled to ensure that the ram was running at DDR5-7200 speeds.

In the Advanced Mode, there are a lot of options available for tweaking your processor, memory speeds and more. Voltages for memory and processor can also be adjusted here.

Users can also configure other settings for CPU, chipset, storage and NVMe, as well as onboard devices  such as USB, TPM, onboard devices and more.

The BIOS also allows you to set the CPU P-Core and E-Core ratios, as well as Vcore voltages too. Interesting, there’s an option called CPU upgrade which gives the ability to enable Gaming Profile, Max Performance Profile and “Instant 6GHz” (screenshot 3).

I am building my next PC for video editing. It comprises:
– Mobo = Gigabyte Z790 AORUS PRO X (rev 1.0)
– CPU = Intel i9-14900K
– RAM = GSKILL TRIDENT Z5 DDR5-6400 32GBx2 CL32-39-39-102 1.60V
– SSD = 2 x WD SN850X 2TB NVME SSD (no heatsink) to be set up in RAID1 config. This is PCIE4.0 SSD.
– GPU = Gigabyte GV-N1650C-4DDV2 rev2 GDDR6. It is PCIE4.0 (Am reusing GPU from previous PC).

The GPU is to be installed in the PCIEX16 slot.
Given as the M2C_CPU connector, & PCIEX16 slot share bandwidth, to maximise speed, for RAID1 config, is it possible & better to install the 2 x WD SN850X SSD in:
a) M2C_CPU & M2A_CPU, or
b) M2Q_SB, & M2P_SB, or
c) M2A_CPU, & M2Q_SB?

Thanks
