ADATA Legend 970 2TB M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 SSD Review

Package and its Contents

The Legend 970 SSD arrived in a retail package. The package is shiny and highlights the product name and capacity. The exterior is well-described with general specifications, support contacts, and various product and serial numbers.

Inside the package, we will find an SSD with a pre-installed cooler. We won’t need anything else for the installation, and the ADATA SSD ToolBox mentioned on the previous page of this review is available for download from the ADATA website.

The installation is straightforward, so most users won’t have problems. If you still aren’t sure if you are doing it right, then the best is to check the motherboard’s manual, as every popular brand has a manual for their sockets (with and without motherboard heatsinks). We must remember that to use the Legend 970, we need a motherboard without a heatsink. Removing the SSD’s heatsink will void the warranty, and we may want to keep it as it’s very long – a 5-year one.

The Legend 970 SSD is equipped with a large heatsink. It’s not as large as some competitive cooling solutions, but with the included fan, it’s more than enough to keep our SSD cool and well-performing.

On the back of the SSD is a typical label with the product’s name, serial and product numbers, and various certificate logos.

I won’t hide I’m not happy to see an SSD that requires a SATA power cable. Understandably, pushing additional watts through the M.2 socket is hard. and design an easily replaceable cooling solution. Still, the whole cable idea is like going back a few years into the past. It still works well, and the cable is long, so that we won’t have a problem connecting it even in a large PC case.

Below, you can see how the SSD looks installed on the ASRock B650E PG-ITX motherboard, which is designed to work with the most demanding M.2 PCIE 5.0 SSD. The ADATA cooler is smaller than the stock ASRock cooler and is also of higher quality. It also looks pretty good installed on the motherboard.

We will show you how the Legend 970 SSD performs on the next page of this review.
