Gigabyte Radeon HD7790 (2GB GDDR5) Review

The Box and Packaging

Packaging on the Windforce Radeon 7790 is your standard Gigabyte affair. You get the cool looking eye on the box in addition to some cool marketing information. The back gives some information about the cooler and a few other features Gigabyte found to be important and relevant. Opening up the box you get a huge amount of accessories(not really). A molex to PCIE power adapter is included along with a driver disk and a user manual. Mind you, if you are purchasing the card at retail you actually get a pretty sweet games package thanks to AMD. Last I checked Tomb Raider , Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon are all included. At retail that is around $140 in free games! That sure adds a ton of value to this card.

The card and Windforce heatsink

The first thing that really stands out is the Windforce cooler. This thing has two decent sized fans on a heatsink that covers the whole card. While this does seem a bit overkill for a Radeon 7790 a bit of everything about this card is overkill for it being a 7790. 2GB of ram is also included compared with the standard 1GB that comes on most 7790 cards. In case you were wondering the memory is Hynix AFR for those interested in overclocking the memory.

When it comes to the layout of the card everything is well spaced and provides solid cooling. I can’t help but get over the size of the cooler on this thing for how little heat it puts out. If you were wondering about what kind of external power it needs you will be glad to know that it only requires a single 6-pin PCIE connection. For those who are planning on throwing one of these cards it certainly keeps power down and provides a solid punch while gaming.

If two big fans and a big aluminum heatsink aren’t enough for you, Gigabyte decided to throw in a heatpipe on top of things. It might be a bit overkill but why not.
