WiMiUS L1 4K Action Camera Review

Unboxing & Contents

As you see from the unboxing video, the WiMiUS L1 comes with a lot of accessories.

There are all sorts of mounts and attachments, but the best accessory in the box is the extra battery and carry pouch. Action cameras tend to have a battery usage of around 2 hours, so on any given trip you’ll want to carry an extra battery or two, which you will need to source from elsewhere. By supplying a spare battery, the WiMiUS L1 is literally able to record for nearly 4 hours straight out of the box.

One gripe here is that a separate charger is not supplied, which means you will have to charge your batteries one after another inside the L1 itself.

Design

As mentioned on the previous page, the WiMiUS L1 sports a rather square design. On the front you will find the wifi button which also acts as the ‘select’ button when you are in the menu system. The 3 vertical stripes you can see under the lens are colored LEDs which light up blue when the L1 is on, and red when it is charging.

As you can see from the photo above, the lens at the front of the L1 does stick out a bit, and if you look closely the lens glass does protrude out of the lens enclosure by a fraction which makes it susceptible to accidental scrapes. The downside to having a more recessed lens glass would mean a narrower field of view, which the L1 actually boasts a 170 degree wide angle lens. The microphone and battery compartment is on the right side of the L1.

On the back of the WiMiUS L1 is the LCD viewfinder. On first impressions the viewfinder looked quite small, but when it is switched on, the sharpness of the displayed image actually makes the viewfinder seem much bigger.

The menu system itself actually takes some time to get used to, as seem in the unboxing video above. I kept on getting mixed up which button did what and ended up selecting the wrong settings all the time. The menu system settings are setting in linear list, which pressing the record button only moves onto the next section, so if you missed a section by mistake, you will need to scroll through the 6 pages of settings again.

Pretty cool, the price and set of features, compared to competition, is very enticing. At a fraction of a cost you can technically get 4 of these and set up multiple filming angles. Thank you for this comprehensive review, Wing.
