Cooler Master MasterAir Pro 3 and Pro 4 CPU Cooler Review

A Closer Look

By compressing heatpipes together there is 45% more surface area on the cooler base which improves heat dissipation compared to previous version (CDC 1.0). The MasterAir Series comes with the highest quality fans, the MasterFan series, making it one of the quietest choices when it comes to high performance air coolers. Intuitive Fan Bracket Design– Makes upgrading and removing MasterFans a breeze.Anti-Vibration pads are also built into the bracket, completely eliminating the metal-on-plastic vibration noise. Stacked fin array ensure least airflow resistance which allows cooler air into the heatsink, the patented X-vents and Air-Guide steer extra ventilation to the hottest spots.

Installation

Ok the installation with this particular cooler was on the harder side of installations. We do have an option to use the old school plastic clips style that doesn’t require a back plate but me personally don’t really like that sound of plastic holding my cooler to my board. So I opted for the metal bracket solution. This is where it gets a little tricky. You have an included nut socket in your accessories. When I see that I know this means trouble because in fact I needed to use it. If you have a tower case you can probably get away with having to remove the mobo to install this cooler. I use a test bench so reaching up in there to secure the back plate was impossible so I had to remove the motherboard form the system. Once I had the motherboard removed everything was easy and familiar territory. I really didn’t like the way the bracket that secures the cooler to the back plate. It easily adjusts to fit what you want but feels unsecure because it basically rests and pivots on the center of the base never really locking in to place. You also need to watch out for the little dowel on the base you have to line up with the bracket. Now we can finally fire it up and see what we get as results.

On the plus side the fan bracket is awesome and you don’t have to deal with flimsy old wire to secure your fan to the cooler! The intuitive fan bracket design makes installing and upgrading the fans as simple as possible. Allows for additional options from the Masterfan Pro series (Air pressure and Air flow fans).
