Thermosiphon Development Project
The Noctua Thermosiphon Development Project is a forward-looking, long-term effort to develop a high-efficiency CPU cooling solution that functions without a pump. Debuted at Computex 2025, the prototype uses a two-phase thermosiphon system that relies on vaporization and condensation to deliver quiet and effective thermal performance.
The thermosiphon system functions through a natural circulation process:
- Evaporation: Heat from the CPU causes the working fluid in the evaporator to vaporize.
- Vapor Rise: The vapor ascends through tubing to the condenser (radiator) located at the top of the system.
- Condensation: In the condenser, the vapor releases heat, condenses back into liquid, and cools down.
- Return Flow: Gravity drives the cooled liquid back to the evaporator, completing the cycle.
This cycle operates continuously, providing effective cooling without the need for mechanical pumps, thereby eliminating pump-related noise and potential points of failure.
