Rocket League To Launch Cross-Play Support For Xbox One And PC

Psyonix will be sending out an update to Rocket League for PC and Xbox One players. Microsoft announced a cross platform play initiative in March, promising Rocket League would be the first title to take advantage of it. That day has finally arrived, with the developer confirming on Steam that cross platform play between Xbox One and PC will be rolling out at 3PM Pacific Time. PC gamers will have over 2 million new gamers to play with and against when the update goes live,

The update marks the initial launch of Microsoft’s new initiative while also bringing Rocket League players together. If you don’t want to play with people who may not be using the same platform you are, the option to participate in cross-network play can be toggled on or off in the options menu. Psyonix warns that online matchmaking may not be fully supported until the patch is fully deployed, so fans may want to wait a little while before trying to jump in to a new Rocket League match.

Allowing cross platform play between Xbox One and PC could be the catalyst for Microsoft’s console to be added to the Rocket League Championship Series next season. The Xbox One wasn’t included in the inaugural season due to a lack of cross platform support, but Twitch and Psyonix have plans to announce the system’s inclusion eventually. The newly formed eSports circuit allows PC and PlayStation 4 gamers to compete since cross platform play between the two systems already existed. Whether today’s update paves the way for Xbox One to get in on the RLCS remains to be seen, but Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to play Rocket League together after today’s patch rolls out at 3PM Pacific Time.
