I was sent a red version of the MicFlip, and sharp color makes a delightful diversion away from the drag black/white/blue/grey USB cables that your normally have. The braided outer of the cable is made from strong nylon, ensuring that you don’t have a cable that frays around the edges and it is resistant to tangling up into a ball of mess. The only downside to this braiding is that it does pick up dirt that much more easily, and its not as if you can throw the MicFlip into a washing machine to give it a good wash, but it is better than the awful sight of dirt smudges on typical plastic cables.

Both ends of the cable (USB-A and micro USB) are coated in durable plastic with the Winnergear logo printed on it. From the feel of the plastic, you just know that the MicFlip means business and should outlast many generations of your smartphones…….that’s if they keep on using a micro USB port and don’t all move onto USB-C.

Down to the business end of the Micflip, the actual connectors themselves, they are gold coated to provide corrosion resistance, but the piece de resistance is the actual connectors themselves. Look closely at them and you’ll see how the USB-A and micro USB connectors can be inserted in either orientation. I have no idea how something as simple as this could take this long to be thought up. On a typical USB-A connector, halfway along the connector you will find the PCB connectors and underneath that will be filled up with plastic preventing incorrect insertion is you had it the wrong way round. Winnergear has removed this bit of plastic obstacle on the Micflip, and has then placed another set of PCB connectors on the underside of the previous connectors, so now you can slot it in whether you have it the right way up or not. Simple. The outer dimensions of the USB-A connector remains the same.

On the other end of the cable, the micro USB connector has had a similar treatment, whereas the typical rhombus-shaped micro USB connector has been transformed into a flattened hexagonal one so that it can fit into a micro USB port whichever way the cable is facing up.
