Lian Li PC-Q16 Mini-ITX Case Review

Photos, The Case Interior

In order to properly give everyone an idea of the amount of space in this case, a motherboard was added for pictures. This is with the power supply removed. Not exactly a ton of space to work with.

With the power supply added there is not too much space to work with, but plenty of space for a low-profile heatsink.

A 140mm fan is featured at the front of the case. And three 2.5″ hard drives as well as a 3.5″ drive can be used. The 2.5″ drive bays can be removed if needed to free up extra space or to make mounting drives easier.

Mounting drives is a breeze. With the removable mounting bracket it is very easy to add three drives and be ready to go within a couple of minutes. No weird clips or mounting mechanisms are found here.

In order to make mounting a motherboard easier Lian Li makes the motherboard tray removable. It can be unscrewed from the bottom of the case and slides back into place. Otherwise mounting a motherboard could be quite an interesting experience.

The power supply is pretty beefy for being in an ITX case. With a 300w rating it should easily be able to handle a few hard drives and whatever ITX based system you can squeeze into the case.

If you were expecting me to rip the power supply apart, you will be disapointed since I am not the power supply guy. But rest assured, this power supply works great and does not give any problems, even when tested on a full-sized motherboard.

Cables can be a mess if not properly routed. If each cable was cut down by an inch or two that would really reduce any mess, but as is they can be somewhat hidden with a bit of imagination.

With everything in the case there is not much room to work with, but that is not to say that airflow is blocked. Heatsinks are able to be kept cool with an ample amount of airflow even when the 140mm fan in the front spins at very low RPMs.

Installation

Just in case you were wondering which hardware was used:

  • Intel Atom N330 Processor
  • Asus AT3IONT-I Deluxe motherboard
  • G.Skill 2x1gb 1600mhz memory
  • Nvidia Ion GPU
  • Seagate 500GB HDD.
  • Lian Li PC-Q16 case

Its time to finish up this review and give this beautiful case a rating.
