Alphacool Eisblock XPX Pro Aurora CPU Waterblock – Full Brass Chrome Digital RGB Review

Performance

All tests were performed on the Ryzen 9 7950X processor, ASUS Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard, Kingston FURY Renegade 32GB DDR5-7200@6400 CL30 memory kit, and Colorful RTX4080 Advanced graphics card.

There are three tests. The first is called Idle, so an operating system without additional load besides standard processes in the background. The second test is based on the PCMark 10 Extended benchmark, which simulates daily work. The last one is a high CPU load tested with AIDA64 with AVX instructions.

The Ryzen 9 7950X CPU runs at up to 5.7GHz with a default TDP of 170W, which goes up to about 230W during full load. Our CPU boosts up to about 5.75GHz without overclocking.
At the default settings, Alphacool custom loop with the XPX Pro was about 4°C better than the best 360 AIO coolers we had in our tests. The custom loop uses the same size radiator, so 360mm long and 30mm thick, and fans have similar specifications too.
The difference in the temperature is significant, but it affects even more the time at which the CPU keeps the highest boost frequency. The temperature limit for new Ryzen processors is 95°C, so it won’t go higher, and the CPU will drop the frequency and voltage to keep the temperature limit. Since the Alphacool cooler keeps it always below 95°C, then also the performance is always optimal.

The best results are with lowered voltages, as then it’s much easier to keep a higher CPU frequency. However, more popular than fully manual overclocking is overclocking using PBO. Our CPU could boost as high as 5.9GHz, and because of lowered voltage, the Alphacool cooler could keep it slightly below 90°C under full load. Below you can see our Cinebench R23 result and the maximum temperature of 87°C after multiple tests with AVX instructions which heat up the CPU the most.

The results using Alphacool XPX Pro cooler are much better than expected. Because of the nature of new, high-wattage processors, results with custom water loops are not always much better than with higher AIO cooler series. In this case, we can see that Alphacool delivered a top-performing solution that offers us best-in-class results.

I’m sure that anyone who decides on the XPX Aurora Pro CPU block will be fully satisfied as it gives not only amazing performance but also looks exceptionally well whether you like RGB or not.
