CRYORIG A40 AIO CPU Cooler Review

Specifications and Features

CRYORIG A40 looks like a typical AIO liquid cooler with the exception that used components are above average and it has couple of additional features like a fan which is cooling socket and power section area.

The A40 is compatible with every popular desktop socket. AM4 is added as separated package but I guess that new boxes will also include this mounting kit. If you are missing AM4 mounting kit then simply ask CRYORIG support and they will send it for free.

CRYORIG A40 comes in a typical for CRYORIG box. It’s well designed and is telling all you need to know about the product inside. Personally I like the way how cooler model is described on one of the sides of the box. Simply large A40 that to some users says everything.

Inside the box we will find all mounting kits for AMD and Intel sockets, manuals and the cooler. Everything you may need to install your new cooler. What is important and there is also an info about it, you can receive additional three year warranty, so in total six years of warranty, when you register your product on the CRYORIG website. It’s the best warranty on the coolers market.

The A40 is using two 120mm fans which can spin up to 2200 RPM but in our tests fans were not going past 1650 RPM. I guess that CPU wasn’t hot enough and these fans are designed to offer optimal performance at quite low noise level.

On the photos you can also see small airflow fan. Idea of this fan is to remove hot air from the socket area. In real on some platforms it’s not helping much and we can see that in our tests. CPU temperature was almost the same in all tests with this fan or without. I guess that it can be handy while we use higher TDP processors and much more heating up power section on the motherboard. On motherboards with the X99 or X299 chipsets, additional airflow is helping a lot.

240mm radiator is made of aluminum. Light and well performing. CRYORIG was one of the first brands which started to use these radiators but it’s not hard to notice that now many competitive brands are using similar design.

Cooler itself bases on Asetek’s pump and cold plate. It’s one of the best options on the market and also some other brands are using it nowadays. The pump is powered by SATA power cable what is good option as not all are using typical 4-pin molex in new computers.

Couple of more photos with cooler installed on the Supermicro Z270 motherboard. As you see it fits perfectly. We were reviewing CRYORIG A80 cooler some months ago and it was almost the same with the difference of larger radiator what offers higher performance at lower fan speed.

Let’s move to the next page to see the test results.
