DeepCool ASSASSIN IV High-Performance CPU Cooler Review

A Closer Look and Installation

The tested version of ASSASSIN IV is black. Everything is black: the heatsink, heat pipes, shrouds, fans, and cables.  Its design is simple but somehow unique and spectacular. In its simplicity, we can clearly see high quality. At first sight, it’s just a cube. A closer look gives us some details like a magnetic, removable fan cover, high/low-speed switch, and a double mode backlight under a DeepCool logo.

The cooler is designed in a less popular way. The front of the cooler doesn’t have a fan like in most competitive coolers. The heat sink on this side has a well-known chessboard pattern. Fans are between the twin-tower heat sink and on its back. This idea gives us total freedom regarding the height of RAM, so we can use anything we want, even such tall modules as the recently released Corsair Dominator Titanium.

The base of the cooler is made of nickel-plated copper. It’s still the best option to keep the performance high and protect the base from stains.

The cooler uses two fans. The inside fan is 140x140x25mm. The back fan is 120x120x25mm. The size is standard, but the fans are from a higher, fluid dynamic bearing series, so we can count on long life and quiet work. Fans are rated up to 1700 RPM in a high-performance mode and 1350 RPM in a quiet mode.

Diagnostic software could read up to 1970 RPM in the performance mode, which can be a reading error. The average in tests was around 1000 RPM, so we can say it’s still not loud, but I recommend the quiet mode for daily usage with lower wattage processors as we can hear the difference.
