The Qualcomm Snapdragon X is an x86-compatible ARM-based processor offering low power consumption and better power efficiency. It can run native ARM64 apps or any traditional Windows apps (via Prism emulation). Here are some it features found on Snapdragon laptops aka Copilot+ PC.
- ARM Architecture for Windows
- Always-Connected
- Performance & Efficiency – Up to 18-22 hours
- AI & Multimedia – Integrated AI engines (NPU)
Now one of the most annoying thing with present day laptops is their battery life. A normal Windows x86-based laptop will probably give you 3-4 hours of continuous usage, and moreover its sleep function doesn’t work as well as it should, often draining the battery. I guess it’s one of the limitations with a x86 based processor. So when Qualcomm announced their new Snapdragon processor for PC (marketed as Copilot+ PC) back in Computex 2024, I was extremely excited to see what laptops will feature this new chip, and how long its battery life will last.
Now let’s take a closer look at the Lenovo IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 14″ Laptop. It’s Lenovo’s latest Copilot+ PC powered by the Snapdragon X Plus ARM processor featuring 45 TOPS NPU, running at a nippy 3.4GHz. The laptop measures just 17.5mm x 313mm x 227mm, and weighs in at only 1.49kg
It comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X ram and 1TB of SSD storage with Gen4 speeds. For graphics, you get an integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU offering up to 1.7 TFLOPS of performance and supports DirectX 12, Vulkan, and OpenCL 3.0 APIs.
The 14″ Touch Display uses an OLED panel offering vibrant clarity with 400 nits brightness, and a WUXGA resolution of 1920 x 1200.
There’s also a 1080P Full HD RGB webcam with dual microphone and privacy shutter, as well as a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard. Other features include Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.4 support and Dolby Audio with 2 x 2W speakers.
On the left side of the laptop, there are 2 x USB-C 10Gbps ports with support for power delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4. There’s also a HDMI 2.1 port and a Headphone/Mic combo. On the right side, you get an additional 2 x USB-A 5Gbps ports, a Micro SD Card Reader and the power button.
The internal 57W gives you a battery life of up to 22 hours, and supports Rapid Charge Boost giving you 2 hours capacity within 15 minutes.
