G.Skill ARES 8GB DDR3-2400 CL11 Ram Review

Overclocking

I was counting that this memory will be able to run at 2600 CL11 but new IC availabe since couple of weeks don’t like tight timings.

Both 1300 and 1333MHz ( so DDR3-2600/2666 ) need the same timings and voltage. At this step we didn’t have to raise voltage and it could remain at stock 1.65V. However raising voltage didn’t help to set tighter main timings and DDR3-2666 12-14-14 was maximum what passed HyperPi 32M and Memtest86+ 5.00 RC1 without any errors.

Full timing list below:

Here is also AIDA64 result at DDR3-2666 12-14-14-35 1.65V. Memory read is lower than on DDR3-2400 11-13-13-31 settings but writes are higher. Overall performance will be nearly the same so we can say that G.Skill programmed XMP pretty good.

Also for all who are interested maximum clock of 1400MHz ( DDR3-2800 ) 12-14-14-37 1.75V. At these settings memory was passing simple tests but wasn’t stable enough to run anything longer like HyperPi 32M.

Also screenshot showing expected performance if anyone else will be lucky to stabilize this memory at DDR3-2800:

As I said at the beginning, not bad but I was expecting CL11 at DDR3-2600/2666.
