The specification is quite good, but we’ve seen tighter timings at DDR4-3600, also from Patriot. Our memory kit is based on Hynix C-die, which isn’t really popular for overclocking. However, it has some potential and perfectly fits into the supported memory frequency of new AMD processors.

What is worth to mention is that the Viper Blackout DDR4-3600 is designed to run at CL17 and as we know, Ryzen processors run at even CL at default settings. In this case, we have to disable Gear Down mode in motherboard’s BIOS to make it run at odd CL. If we don’t make it, then the memory will run at CL18. Odd CL values are a bit weird considering that this memory is also designed for AMD Ryzen.

Once we disable Gear Down mode, then all works fine at rated XMP settings. Below you can see stability test which confirms that.

The Blackout memory was tested on ASRock and Gigabyte motherboards with the X570 chipset, and there were no problems with stability.

Package and its Contents

The tested memory kit contains two 8GB memory modules. Both equipped with heatsinks in a black-gray color scheme. If memory modules are slightly too tall, then we can remove the top, but in most cases, it won’t be required.

The memory arrived in a retail package which shows one of the memory modules in a transparent window. On the small box, we can see a general specification, memory capacity, rated speed, and info that this memory is compatible with all modern AMD and Intel platforms.

Inside the box, we will find two memory modules and two already well-known stickers with Viper Gaming logo.

Memory modules are already known from previous Viper 4 series, but they look somehow fresh. There are not many memory modules kept in a black/gray color scale. We could say nothing new, but at the same time, it looks exceptional.

The Blackout memory series has no LEDs. If we wish RGB lighting, then Patriot has in its offer Viper RGB memory kits at a similar speed but also with taller heatsinks.
