Genesis Thor 300 TKL RGB Gaming Keyboard Review

Closer Look

The Thor 300 TKL RGB keyboard arrived in a retail package which is a flat box. The package is well described and lets us check key features without visiting the manufacturer’s website.

Inside the box, except for the keyboard, we will find a short user’s manual, a sticker with the Genesis logo, and a tool to remove keys. This is everything we may need to start using our new keyboard.

The keyboard has mechanical keys, which are popular in gaming keyboards. Thankfully, Red Outemu switches are not making as much noise as Cherry or other switches that I had a chance to test previously. Thor 300 also feels more comfortable than Thor 420 or some other keyboards that I reviewed. The closest product would be HyperX Alloy Origins Core which surprisingly doesn’t feel much better but costs more.

I like the fact that the USB cable is braided, feels durable, and is quite thick. It’s also well protected on both sides to stay in good condition for a long time. Usually, only expensive keyboards have cables like that. It could be additionally detachable.

The keyboard is small like all TKL series, but it’s enough for gaming. In most games, it’s required to use about 8-10 keys (excluding chatting), and those users who are into MMORPG probably already use a mouse with macros and shortcuts. Everything else seems like a waste of space on the desk. Thor 300 also gives an option to create our own macros. Personally, I’m used to macros on a mouse, and it would be hard for me to move them to a keyboard, but I bet that other users can find a use for that.

The same as Thor 420, also the 300 has shortcuts to set backlight for popular games and genres. On the keyboard, they’re marked as FPS, CF, COD, LOL, and RACE.

All keys have a backlight that we can program in software, which is quite simple to use. Every key can be programmed separately, or we can use a long list of presets. As long as we have many options for illumination adjustments, then the backlight could be brighter. On the photos, you can see the maximum brightness, which can also be adjusted. To take visible photos with RGB effects, I had to turn off all ambient lights. I feel like the font on the keys could be different and a bit larger as it’s not transparent enough and causes some symbols to be blurred.

The keyboard was working without issues during about a week of tests. It’s small but can get used to it quite fast, and then it feels comfortable for longer gaming.

I feel like Thor 300 TKL RGB is the most successful Genesis keyboard, or at least I like it the most. Before us is one more keyboard, but I won’t tell you much right now as the review will be published soon.
