Sonic Studio
To get the most of the ROG Strix Wireless you’ll have to download ASUS’ Sonic Studio software. Here you can tweek the sound to however you want it with an impressive array of controls. If you are using the headset wirelessly (which is probably why you bought it in the first place), then download and install the drivers needed for the wireless dongle.
In Action!
Plug either the ROG Strix Wireless directly to the PC or insert the wireless dongle, and away you go. The wireless connection was established before I could blink.
The sound quality of the headset is sharp and dynamic. The bass thunders along immerse you into the game, whilst the treble and mid-tones hit just at the right levels to give you an immense soundscape. No longer does firearms in FPS all sound the same but with a different tempo, now you can differentiate the minor subtle differences.
All of this with the 7.1 surround sound adds to the intense atmosphere whilst you are gaming. The accuracy of the 7.1 surround sound allows you to gauge the direction of your enemies in games very accurately.
I did find the easy access control buttons on the left earcup to take some remembering, I would accidentally press the wrong button by mistake on several occasions.
I honestly couldn’t tell the difference when I used the ROG Strix Wireless either wired or wireless, there were no noticeable difference in lag between the two.
But there’s a downside to all this great sounds. When you first pick up the headset, you’ll notice that they are quite heavy. And when you put them on for the first time, even though the fit is nice and snug, the headband is very stiff, so after long periods of gameplay the entire headset weighs down on you and you start feeling the grip of the earcups on the side of your head. And you’re going to get sweaty ears due to the lack of ventilation.
