Crucial T500 2TB NVMe M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD Review

Package and its Contents

In the package, we receive the T500 2TB SSD and a multilingual quick-start guide. The heatsink makes the package slightly thicker than a typical Crucial SSD box, but it’s not as thick as the one of the T700 SSD. On the exterior, we will find a general specification, additional features, and contact with support.

The T500 is designed for desktop computers, so it doesn’t require anything else. The installation itself is straightforward so that everyone can handle it. For the PS5 console, I recommend picking the non-heatsink version as it’s also cheaper.

The only real requirement for optimal performance is an M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 socket. Every modern motherboard is equipped with at least one of those. In the best case, we may find even five M.2 PCIe 4.0 sockets, and if we really want, we can set up a multi-SSD RAID array.

The drive is black – the PCB, heatsink, and labels. It makes it match perfectly with every PC. If we have a higher series motherboard – like one of those that we use as a test rig, then I recommend ordering a version without a heatsink. As you can see in the photos below, we had to remove the motherboard heatsinks (MSI Z790 Ace MAX), which are even larger than the ones on the Crucial T500. For the performance tests, we used the Gigabyte B650E Master, which is one of the best motherboards for multiple SSD configurations.

We will show you how the T500 SSD performs on the next page of this review.
