Yes, that’s right Drobo’s patented BeyondRAID system allows you to mix and match hard drives. It’s super simple to setup and configure.

A Closer Look

The Drobo 5C unit is identical in shape and size as the 5Dt (Thunderbolt version). Just like all the other Drobos, the front panel has magnetic strip along the edges of the cover, and comes off quite easily revealing the drive bays. It is a completely screwless mounting system, which means you just slot the bare 3.5″ hard drives into the slots, and push it in firmly to lock the drive in place.

To remove the hard drive, there is a button/notch on the left side of the drive bays … which when pushed firmly, will pop-out the hard drive for easy replacement.

At the rear of the unit, you’ll find one USB Type-C connector, an rocker on/off switch and a DC-in power connector.
