Kingston XS1000 2TB Portable SSD Review

Performance

The performance has been tested on the AMD Ryzen platform with the Ryzen 9 7950X processor and ASUS Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard. The test platform is not limiting the SSD in any way.

The XS2000 SSD can achieve even more than the declared 1050/1000MB/s, and if you have any problems with that, then it’s probably the USB controller or motherboard’s fault.

As usual, in my storage reviews, I will start with the ATTO Disk Benchmark. It’s one of the most popular storage benchmarks, and results are easy to compare at home.

The ATTO benchmark shows that the XS1000 can reach 1.02GB/s read and 0.99GB/s write bandwidth. This benchmark usually shows slightly lower than declared results, so everything is OK.

In CrystalDiskMark, we can see read bandwidth up to 1089MB/s and write bandwidth up to 1035MB/s. Both results are exceptional and higher than those declared by Kingston.

In PCMark 10, results are crucial for all users working directly on the portable drive. Results are a mix of reading and writing in sequential and random tasks. As we can see, the scores are exceptional, considering it’s a USB SSD.

Since no one will probably play games directly from the portable SSD, we will skip the 3DMark Storage Benchmark and the extended random read and write tests in AIDA64. We will still show you Anvil’s Storage Utilities result, which is pretty good, considering it’s one more benchmark that barely ever shows declared maximum bandwidth on any storage device.

As you can see, the XS1000 performs even better than Kingston declares, reaching the maximum possible bandwidth of USB 3.2 Gen2x1. If we wish for something faster, then Kingston also offers the XS2000 SSD, which is capable of 2GB/s+. On the other hand, most motherboards and laptops don’t have 20Gbps USB ports, so getting a faster SSD can be a waste of money. We better check our computer’s specifications before we decide on a purchase.
