The drive seems fine. There are no SMART errors, and its condition is 100%, just as expected.

The drive has a low operating temperature due to aluminum enclosure. In idle, the drive has around 30°C. During everyday work, the temperature of the drive is still lower than that of many competitors and shouldn’t exceed 50°C even if it heats up; then, after turning off, it cools-off quickly.

Package and its Contents

The package of the Patriot PXD is quite simple but functional. It’s a small, well-described box that perfectly fits the retail stores. On the package, there are all main features like high speed, compact size, high capacity, lightweight, supported platforms, and some more.

The drive comes with two high-quality USB cables. One is a USB type-A to type- C, and the other one is a C-type cable. Both are good enough to provide maximum bandwidth on the PXD.

The drive supports USB 3.2 and its maximum bandwidth. The declared bandwidth is 1000MB/s for both data write and read. It’s a lot for a USB drive and pretty much maximum possible for the current standard. Really interesting is also that the write bandwidth is also 1000MB/s. Usually, it’s significantly lower. In our tests, we can confirm that the drive can make even more, up to the maximum USB 3.2 port bandwidth, so around 1070MB/s. Simply amazing for a portable drive.

The PXD itself is small and light. The enclosure is made of aluminum and is also working as a heatsink, lowering the drive’s temperature. Because of that, it gets a bit hot during longer work, but once we disconnect the drive, then it cools down quickly.

Next to the USB-C port, there is an activity LED, which is blue. The whole build is quite robust. I highly doubt that anything will break if we drop the drive on the ground couple of times or step on it.

Once again, during USB SSD review, I will add that I wish to see the drive which has built-in or possible to hide in the enclosure, USB cable. Even though the drive is really small and we can carry it in the pocket without problems, then there is still the USB cable, which takes as much, if not more, space.

Now it’s time on some performance tests. Let’s move to the next page.
