First Impressions

Synology has designed the Diskstation DS215+ NAS to be simple in both installation and ease of use. The packaging is pretty plain, but it is neat and tidy. In the box, there are 2 x LAN cables, a power adaptor, the NAS unit itself, a simple quick installation guide and a set of keys to lock the drive bay… and that’s it.

The unit features a screwless design setup, which meants you don’t need any extra tools to mount the hard drives. You can setup the unit in a matter of minutes … seriously!

As far as the NAS unit is concerned, it looks and feels pretty robust, come with good build quality. The drive bays are spacious and there’s spacing in between them, allowing air-flow for extra cooling. However, I would have liked the brackets for the hard drives to be made of aluminium in stead of plastic.

At the rear of the unit, you’ll find 2 x 1-GBit LAN ports (with Link Aggregation), 2 x USB 3.0 ports, eSATA port, which is more than enough for external devices and attaching printers.
