Gigabyte Radeon RX470 G1 Gaming 4GB Video Card Review

Performance

For our test rig we paired the cards with an Intel Core i5 6600K @3.5GHz, AsRock Fatal1ty H170 motherboard and 16GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Red DDR4. All test are conducted using default speeds on CPU and Card. At the bottom of this page I do have some Overclock results for the RX470 G1 gaming!

We would like to thank Futuremark for providing the 3DMark software for use in this testing.

3DMark is arguably the most popular graphics card benchmarking software known to the world. For more than a decade, users have been using the software made by Futuremark to make and break world records and to also test overclocks. The latest version simply known as 3DMark includes several tests for DirectX 9, 10, 11 and 12 hardware. This version also supports cross-platform benchmarking including smartphones and tablets (Android and iOS) this time around. We used the Fire Strike Ultra and Time Spy benchmarks (all at default settings). I will let the numbers do the talking.

The rx470 fell just below the 1060 and 1070 in all the test run. Which was expected. The card faired pretty well for the tests we through at it. As you can see below all the results from the benchmarks. All these results are at stock speeds.

Final Fantasy has been around for a very, very long time. The beloved RPG franchise has been seen as the most successful video game RPG series of all time. The latest MMO flavor, Final Fantasy XIV, has some unprecedented visual quality, a full range of character variety, as well as some pretty special magical effects. We tested this game using the free downloadable benchmark with the default Maximum preset. The result is a beautiful game with an ultra-smooth frame rate and an Extremely High branded score.

Here are the results for Heavenward benchmark.

As you can see in the chart below the GPU only Power Draw maxed out at 106.9 Watts.

Now for the Overclock results! I was able to achieve a base clock of 1330MHz. Anything higher and the test benchmark would freeze up or skip. With that being said that is about an 8% overclock and I scored a 2044 in Unigine Valleys benchmark test. So we can assume you can get about a 4% increase in performance out of this particular card.

Now lets take a look at the software for the RX470 G1 gaming!

This card has problems with temperatures! Why didn’t write temperature problems. When gpu is load, temperature is 80C and more. Very bad from Gigabyte for this card.

Yes temperature for this card is ridiculous new improved fans yeh right its 1/3 smaller than on the r9 270 i believe gigabyte is now just all hype . I used to rely on gigabyte for all my parts not anymore, they dont even go for as long as their warranty, misuse of technical knowledge and an inability to implement it. My god they have been doing this since 1986 and they are getting worse, i suppose when sales drop they might actually care again.
