MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI Motherboard Review

Installation

During our PC build, the MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WiFi motherboard fitted nicely in the MSI MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ chassis, with no issues at all.

We also installed 48GB of V-Color Manta XFinity RGB DDR5-8000 ram, Crucial T700 1TB PCIE Gen5 SSD, and the MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Vanguard SOC Launch Edition.

To cool the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor, we used the MSI MAG CORELIQUID A13 360 AIO cooler which comes pre-installed with 3 x CycloBlade 7 ARGB GEN2 cooling fans.

BIOS

There are two BIOS modes on the MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WiFi motherboard … Easy Mode and Advanced Mode. The Easy Mode allows you to monitor all the system status on this page such as fan speeds, CPU temperatures, memory and processor speeds, as well as voltages.

Users can also configure other settings for CPU, chipset, storage and NVMe, as well as onboard devices  such as USB, TPM, onboard devices and more.

MSI’s newly designed CLICK BIOS X offers an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly experience. The new design ensures that users of all experience levels can quickly access and adjust system configurations with ease.

BIOS Key Features include:

  • Game Boost
  • AI Boost
  • EXPO / A-XMP
  • Hardware Monitor
  • M-Flash
  • U-Key
  • Profile
  • Favourites
  • Search

In the Advanced Mode, there are a lot of options available for tweaking your processor, memory speeds and more. Voltages for memory and processor can also be adjusted here.

During our tests, we left everything on AUTO/Default. Although the motherboard was able to support both EXPO and XMPO memory modules, at the time of testing we decided to use XMP memory for our tests. We select XMP 1 which sets the ram at DDR5-8000 speeds. You can check out MSI’s QVL/download page for more information.
