Kingston HyperX Cloud Headset Review

Package Contents

Now let us see what we can find in the box. The headset and all of the other parts are protected by foam so we can be sure that everything will survive any form of transportation.

Inside there is the headset itself as well as all of the necessary extention cables and adapters, an additional pair of ear pads, a detachable microphone and a traveling nylon mesh pouch.

The HyperX Cloud bundle is much better than we found in the previous HyperX headset review. Also I can say that the quality of all of the components is higher which is great. Please check the gallery below for photos of all the parts of the set.

Closer Look at the HyperX Cloud Headset

The headset comes to us protected in various ways. Below we can see foil on the ear cups which is protecting the brushed aluminum parts from scratching. It is hard to scratch it during normal usage but it is still good that a manufacturer thinks about it.

The aluminum parts were also painted black. There is also a white version of this headset available for the same price. All of this looks and feels pretty solid. Even the plastic parts do not look cheap.

The ear pads are made of leather but you can change them to a set made of velour. They are really comfortable for me and I can not say the same about many headsets out there. The same soft leather band makes it probably the most comfortable headset I have had a chance to use.

Below there is a close up of the headband with a HyperX logo. On the sides there are red stitches. The logo could also be red but that is just a detail. The minimalistic design of this headset is actually a big advantage. Most gaming products are flashy with many useless things. Here we get a solid, classy looking product.

The microphone is detachable which is a good option, however I liked the option to hide it like in the HyperX Siberia series.

Before connecting the mic, we have to remove plastic plug. The microphone itself is flexible so we will not have any problems to set it as we like.

Here is an additional gallery of the headset. I bet you will agree that the HyperX Cloud looks great.

Performance

Since not everyone is able to hear the same sounds, listening tests are pretty subjective. Most users will not really feel a special difference between various headsets and it will be hard for them to tell the difference without hearing other products.

I will not hide that I am not an audiophile and that I am using headphones mainly to listen to music and play games.

Music

HyperX Cloud is great for listening to music. Deep but natural bass and lively trebles are something that you can hear on a more expensive products. Regardless of the type of music all was clear and I could easily hear separated instruments.

Changing ear pads to the velure ones seem to give better treble effects but leather set is also not that bad. Lower bass frequencies were also suprisingly good for this class of headphones.

While listening to higher compressed music like MP3 I haven’t hear so much distortion as on other gaming grade headsets. Files quality wasn’t perfect but general sound wasn’t annoying.

Games

Couple of games that I was checking, including Civilization V, Guild Wars 2 and Battlefield 4 sounded just like they should sound. Explosions and other effects were adding life to the action and I just couldn’t hear any unexpected noises. HyperX Cloud is well balanced in this point. It’s hard to find better headset in similar price which will give so good sound experience in games.

Movies

Listening to movies is also a pleasure. All special effects sound realistic and even though HyperX Cloud is not supporting surround sound, all was great. Bass wasn’t too loud while it was available always when necessary.

Experience while watching movies was similar to this in games, so simply great.

Microphone

Microphone quality wasn’t perfect but wasn’t also bad. All was clear and understandable so good enough for any game. Sounds were not modified too much what is good. There was some distortion but nothing that really counts. I think that gamers will be satisfied with this mic.

Generally sound quality is great for a gaming grade headset. It’s hard to find any disadvantages that will affect gaming experience. HyperX Cloud is comfortable and works good so that’s most important for everyone who is spending many hours playing games.
