Perixx’s AX-1200 Gaming Headset Review

Closer Look

Already a fan of Perixx? Then you will love the AX-1200 color scheme! Much like the rest of Perixx’s headsets, the AX-1200 is black with red accents. The 1200 is built with what seems to be a fairly cheep plastic, which should be expected with the price only being around 30 USD.  While adjusting the headset, the 1200 is easily bendable and squeaks a little bit. Don’t let that deter you! The rest of the 1200’s design seem great and we still haven’t tested the most important part of a headset, performance!

Each ear has about a quarter of an inch of cushion. Which quite frankly states, “Hey look at me I’m comfortable!” The cushion is covered with a perforated type of leather that may get hot over long period of use, but would make for an easy cleaning. A feature I really loved about the 1200 is that each ear also has a grill look and feel to them. In the middle each grill are the words Perixx. The words are quite small and do not take away from the design at all like some other products out there. Another great feature is the braided cable. The cable is 1.8m long (about 6ft) and seem pretty durable. At the end of the cable is a 3.5mm audio jack, which is quite nice if you using a sound card. However, you will need to get an adapter if you are wanting to use these babies with a Next Gen console. Perixx does send a splitter cable at the end for PC use. The splitter is color coded to show which plug goes into each port. Each of the 3.5mm plugs are gold plated, which should make the audio and microphone quality pretty decent.

Perixx’s AX-1200 has a 15 level adjustment with the headband, therefore you should not have any problems adjusting this headset to fit your head. Much like the ear cups, the headband is cushioned. However, the fabric of the headband is made of two different types of material and has less cushioning then the ear cups. The top has the same leather feel to them while the cushioned bottom has a soft mesh covering. We will see during testing if having less cushion on the headband is going to cause problems with the 1200’s comfort.

There are two different parts that go with the microphone of the AX-1200. The first is the microphone itself, which extends in one solid piece off the left ear. Easy to adjust, the microphone is very flexible for easy maneuvering. The second part to the microphone resides on the braided cable. There you will find the mute button for the microphone. Which will come in handy keeping the conversation you are having away from the in-game party members. Only complaint I have is that the 1200 does not seem to have any volume control with the button or on the headsets it self.
