ADATA SE920 2TB USB4 Portable SSD Review

Conclusion

ADATA was one of the first brands to release PCIe 5.0 SSD and the first to release USB4 SSD. As with all pioneers, the SE920 SSD isn’t perfect, but it’s a very successful external SSD and better than we expected.

We had no problems with ADATA SE920 during all our tests. The SSD works as declared and is only limited by USB/TB controllers. It causes some users to think twice before they decide on the USB4 SSD.
The SSD had no compatibility issues, but as I mentioned before, it wasn’t easy to find a perfect test PC that wouldn’t limit the bandwidth (even though all had USB4 or TB4 in specifications).

The SE920 is definitely the fastest external SSD we tested, and I doubt anyone will beat it soon. I assume that when the competition releases its USB4 SSD, ADATA will already have an improved version of the SE920.

I can’t find the SE920 in popular online stores when I’m writing this review. However, it was available recently at around $170 for the 2TB version. It makes the SE920 not as expensive as we may think, especially considering it’s the only USB4 SSD available in stores. I’m sure that the deliveries are on the way as some smaller online stores in the EU region have it available, while larger stores in the US, like Amazon or Newegg, do not.

Final words:

The SE920 from ADATA is one of the fastest portable SSD we can buy right now. If you are after a fast, well-designed SSD, at a reasonable price, then the SE920 can be easily recommended. The SSD also has an extended 5-year warranty and a wide list of backwards compatible devices, so we can use it with any PC, mobile device, or modern gaming console.
