GIGABYTE AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 500GB Review

Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the GIGABYTE AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD. It utilises Phison’s reputable  E16 SSD controller, and supports NVMe 1.3 interface and of course, the latest PCI-E 4.0 Gen4 standards. Our review sample has a total capacity of 500GB of 3D NAND flash memory, and comes with DDR4 DRAM caching, offering a read speeds of up to 5,000Mb/sec, and a write speed of up to 2,500Mb/sec.

From previous experience, running NVMe Gen4 SSDs at full load can get quite hot. So to mitigate this issue, Gigabyte has included a large full cover copper heatsink which should help reduce temperatures.

For those who wish to take advantage of PCIE Gen4 SSDs, there’s only one option … you have to get yourself a AMD Ryzen processor (Matisse) along with either a X570 or a B550 motherboard. Currently, Intel’s latest 10th Gen processor and its associated Z490 motherboard, don’t support PCIE 4.0 yet!

Confused and NAND flash memory? Well, there are several types of NAND flash memory used in most of today’s SSDs. The two most popular are SLC and MLC, and now TLC. Here’s a little background taken from HowToGeek.
