Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 64GB Flash Drive Review

Conclusion, Rating, and Final Thoughts

Patriot really has a winner with the Supersonic Rage XT line of drives.

The performance is very good but I do wish they could iron things out and have it perform more uniformly across benches and different testing situations, rather than have instances where it would run extremely fast and other times where it struggled to come anywhere close to the rated speeds.

The drive itself feels well made and the fact that it slides into itself to act as a case is a nice touch.

I know I have lost the caps for about 90% of my flash drives over the years so this is a welcome addition.

One of the other nice things is the little hole in the top of the drive which allows a lanyard cable to go through so it can easily be added with any other flash drives you may own.

Pricing on the Supersonic Rage XT is not too bad, it can be found for around $65 which roughly translates to $1/GB. This is on par for most SSDs out there which makes sense since this thing is pretty much a mini-USB SSD. Comapared with other drives it stacks up pretty fairly as far as speeds and pricing.I’ve had a few super-fast drives die from other companies after a few months of heavy use *cough*CorsairandAdata*cough* so if this drive is slightly slower than the competition I’d be willing to make that sacrafice if it holds the test of time.

Lets go ahead and rate this thing! Of course there are Pros and cons to every item.

Pros:

  • Waterproof
  • Occaionally exceeds rated speeds
  • Large capacity
  • Good value

Cons:

  • Has a tendency to not meet rated speeds
  • No lanyard included
  • Not the fastest drive for its price

Final Thoughts

Patriot has a solid drive for the price in the Supersonic Rage XT. This drive is not their flagship flash drive but it sure offers up huge amounts of performance in a compact and rugged package. It certainly gives you everything you need in a flash drive without breaking the bank or running the risk of breaking the drive after losing the cap.
