Package and its Contents
The Silicon Power DS72 TB SSD arrived in a retail package – a mix of cardboard and transparent blister, so it doesn’t take much space, but protects the product well.
The package is well described with general specifications, support contact, and various safety certificates.
Inside the package, we will find only an SSD. This is precisely what we expected, as it doesn’t require anything else to work. Since it’s USB storage, installation is not required. We connect it to any USB, which should be automatically recognized and ready to work. We must remember that the optimal performance will be provided only on modern computers with USB 3.2 Gen2 ports capable of 10 Gbps bandwidth. The SSD is backward compatible with older standards, but the bandwidth will be limited.
The DS72 is precisely what I expect when thinking about portable USB storage. It doesn’t have any cables and works with USB-A and USB-C devices. It’s small and light, and I can easily carry it in my pocket. Rubber caps protect both connectors, and it’s impossible to lose them. However, caps have a disadvantage. They are wider than the aluminum enclosure, and once open, they can block other ports. If we use a single device, there is no problem, but it appears when we use a motherboard with multiple occupied USB ports or even two ports next to each other in the front panel of a PC case.
The SSD is durable and small. It’s also fast and has a large capacity. If the size of the protective caps is not an issue, we could say the DS72 is perfect.
Since I mentioned performance, let’s move to the next page to look at our test results.
