Raidmax Narwhal 920 Chassis Review

A Closer Look: Interior

The side panels is held on with your typical thumb screws. Sliding each panel off allows for a clearer view of the interior. First thing I noticed is that the motherboard risers are already installed for an ATX motherboard. If you are planning on using a different size motherboard, the 920 has the capabilities of handling a ATX, Micro ATX, and Mini ITX. You will just have to reposition the motherboard risers. The 920 has the usual cut-out behind the motherboard, while also having the same cut-outs in the back plate the Viper GX II had. Two cut-outs are on the right side of the motherboard cut-out, while one is towards the bottom right of the motherboard cut-out. Each cut-out allows for easy cable maneuvering.

The rest of the 920’s interior is very well laid out and has plenty of room for all your high-end components. Towards the top right side you will notice an inside view of the four 5.25 optical drives. Each optical drive have the tool free set up. Below that is two sets of 3.5 HDD bays. The middle one is removable by pressing the two tabs together and pulling out, but does not come with any HDD carriages like the bottom HDD bay. However, Raidmax does send three sets of HDD drive rails that the they send with the Viper GX II. If you read that review you will notice that they HDD drive rails worked just as well. The 920 is no longer tool free if you are planning to put in a 2.5 SSD, however, Raidmax does send the appropriate screws that would hold the SSD in place using the 3.5 HDD carriages. Having the removable HDD cage is a great feature and allows for longer graphic cards. The 920 is capable of holding up to a 435mm graphics card.

On the left side of the 920’s interior is the back panel. Here you will have a clearer view of the motherboard I/O port cut-out, eight expansion slots, three rubber grommets, the fan controller mount, PSU cut-out, and the back ventilation. At the very top is the pre-installed 120mm fan which matches the rest of the tower being black in color with silver fan blades. A quick look towards the bottom you will notice the PSU bay and another 120mm fan mount. Each has its own ventilation and filters. The top has quite a bit room and has the capabilities to install two 120/140mm fans or a 240/280mm water cooler.

Now lets see how this baby looks with all the hardware installed!
