Sennheiser AVX-ME2 Set Review – Wireless Clip-On Lavalier Microphone

Various Usage Types

Here, I’ve attached the receiver to the hot shoe mount of our Canon D80 camera. The XLR to 3.5mm cable is plugged into the mic-in of the camera. I’m assuming the receiver and transmitter units are already paired, if not follow the instructions in the user manual and pair them up. It’s really that simple.

Of course, I had to see if this setup would work on our iPhone. And it’s a big YES. Using a TRS-to-TRRS converter cable, I bought my from Amazon – https://goo.gl/jNjE07 , you can plug the XLR to 3.5mm cable into this, and the whole setup should work just fine. Verdict and Conclusion

Video recording using camcorders, DSLR cameras and smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, especially doing interviews and live events. However, the audio quality of the recordings are generally below the standard I feel acceptable. During video editing you can hear a lot of background noise, hiss and interference. So what’s the solution? … the simple answer is to invest in a separate microphone, such as the Rode Videomic Pro (which comes highly recommended) or if you want to go all pro … then something like the Sennheiser AVX-ME2 Set or the Sennheiser MKE 2 Digital Lapel Microhpone (iPhone lightning connector).

The Sennheiser AVX-ME2 Set is a more versatile recording solution because it’s a complete wireless setup, which is perfect for recording interviews during exhibitions and events, whether it’s outdoors or indoors. No more messy audio cables in the way!

The whole setup was super simple, and you don’t need any more expensive equipment for equalizing the audio. Sennheiser AVX-ME2’s Dynamic Range guarantees perfectly leveled sound – no matter whether it’s very quiet or extremely loud. The AVX matches perfectly to the camera’s input sensitivity. Without having to adjust the audio level on the microphone by hand.

The Sennheiser AVX-ME2 Set is certainly not your average everyday purchase, costing a whopping USD $699, it’s one of the most expensive wireless lavalier/lapel microphones I’ve ever reviewed. But boy! … the audio quality of the recording I got, was most certainly excellent to say the least.
