Eros V2 Surround Sound Gaming Headset Review

Performance

Let me first start out with telling you how durable the Eros V2 is. My wife is very hard on her things. I learned that very quickly after having to buy her a new phone in just 3 months of getting her the new I phone 6. Giving the Eros V2 to my wife for a couple weeks gave me a chance to see how well they stood up to the carnage my wife can give out. The V2 may look like a headset that could be easily broken, but let me tell you that these babies can sure take a beating and survive the onslaught. When wearing them, I really never felt uncomfortable. The lightweight suspension were a nice touch and the cushioned ear cups were adequate. My wife was the one who were them hours on end and she never once complained about the comfort level. She did say that the ears could get a little sweaty if she wore them in any kind of heated environment, but that should be expected I think.

My wife and I loved the 7.1 surround sound Gamdias provided with the Eros V2, however it should be stated that the surround sound is only compatible while using the gold plated USB. Listening with the 3.5mm jack only provides a 2 stereo listening experience. Another critique my wife had was that the In-line remote was attached to the USB extended cable. With the remote being attached to the USB cable and not ahead of the 3.5mm jack only allows you to control the volume and mute buttons for mainly PC use. If you are using the headset like my wife did with your smartphone or tablet you will not be able to use that feature. With all that said, we both were content with the over all listening experience. Having the 50mm drives really helps with both the surround and two stereo listening experience. The highs and mid sounds were great and sounded clear and crisp, the bass was a little lacking.  Downloading the software EOS and using the USB extended cable increases the over all listening and playing experience. Below I will get into some of the capabilities of the EOS software.

Playing games with the Eros V2 is a dream come true! While using the Eros V2’s surround sound you are able to hear it all. Explosions, gunshots, footsteps and even reloading of guns are clear and crisp. During MMO battles you will hear the whole battle clearly, while also not drowning out your party members voices. The headset does lack a little bass yet the over all gaming experience is a plus.

The Eros microphone worked wonderfully with every test phase! As stated earlier, my wife used the Eros V2 almost exclusively with her smartphone. Everyone thought she sounded much better while using the headset. The microphone does not pick up a lot of back ground noise even though it is unidirectional. Of course, I was the one who tested out the Eros V2’s Microphone while playing games. I have been using the Perixx’s 1200 during my gaming sessions. If you read my review of the 1200, then you will remember that the 1200’s microphone was awesome and everyone in my party could not tell a difference.  What was really nice about the Eros V2 is that I didn’t have to do much changing of the settings like I had to with the 1200. It works very well as is.

Software

Gamdias’s calls their software for the Eros V2, EOS. EOS has a very simple look to it and is very consumer friendly. You have to first download Gamdias software that is used with all their other products, Hera. Hera is downloadable from their website. Once downloaded, Hera will find the headset. Hera will also ask you if you want to download the latest firmware and the software EOS. Once EOS is downloaded, you are able to reopen EOS back up by clicking the headset image in the bottom part of the screen. EOS is very easy to use. The first screen controls all the main settings for the audio input and output. For example, the surround sound and 2 stereo capabilities. On the second screen control the volume for both the 50mm drive speakers and microphone, while the third screen has the controls for environmental effect and an equalizer. The equalizer has 12 different presets. Jazz was the one that worked best for me giving plenty of bass while also enough treble to hear voices while partying. The fourth screen has all the microphone settings and the fifth screen gives you all the product information.
