iDeaPlay V207 ANC Bluetooth Headphone Review

Main Review

I’m certainly not an audiophile but I have gotten to test a large number of headphones and speakers letting me get a good idea of what kind of headphone quality you can expect for certain price points. Also during this review, I will be using the acronym ANC to refer to the active noise cancellation feature of the V207.

Comfort

For me these headphones were extremely comfortable, the ear cups are very padded with a faux leather feeling material. The ear cups are somewhat small though there is some more room for your ears around the inside of the padding but the size is still a bit on the smaller size, this was never an issue for me though because I have smaller ears but it is something to keep in mind if you have larger ears.  But overall I am very pleased with how the ear cups feel.

The headband is another part of these headphones that feel really comfortable, it has a nice amount of padding and it isn’t too rigid which helps the headphones fit around your head better. There’s also a decent amount of padding on the headband, I don’t know the exact measurement but It never felt like my head was pressing through the padding. Once again no complaints with the headband!

The ear cups on these headphones also have a decent amount of swivel on them. They’re able to move both left and right as well as forward and back slightly, this helps them fit on a large variety of head sizes.

Overall the V207 headphones were extremely comfortable for me but I can see there being issues if you have larger ears so make sure to take your ear size into account when deciding on whether or not to grab these over one of iDeaUSA’s larger sized headphones.

In the end, I rate the comfort of the V207 headphones 5/5 I personally had no issues with the comfort but I can see the smaller ear cup size being a potential issue for larger ears.

Battery life

Battery life is very impressive coming in around 19.5hrs of playtime with ANC on and volume set to 50% (They’re rated for 27hrs with ANC off but I didn’t test that due to time constraints).

They also charged very quickly going from dead to fully charged in a little over 2.5hrs.

I did notice that they died a little bit before the advertised time of 23hrs with ANC on but due to variations in testing I can’t really count this as a negative since iDea could have had the headphones on a lower volume when they did their testing. I also noticed on the Amazon page in the written features they stated 19hrs of battery life but in the pictures 23hrs so perhaps I was going off of the wrong statistics but either way, the battery life is still very impressive.

Overall I rate the battery life 4.5/5. I do wish they lasted the advertised time but the V207’s did still last almost an entire day which is extremely impressive, the quick charge time is also a major plus.

Build quality

These are some of the sturdiest headphones I’ve used. I was pleasantly surprised by how much metal these headphones are made out of metal, the track that the headphones ride up and down is made of a brushed metal and the hinges are made out of a very sturdy feeling and thick metal. I’m normally not a fan of exposed wires due to the potential for damage but iDeaUSA managed to tuck the red wires behind the ear cup track so it would be extremely difficult to damage the wire on these headphones. Even the parts that are made out of plastic like the outside of the ear cups feel extremely well made. The headband is also very premium feeling, it’s covered in a faux leather feeling material and very nice stitching on both the inside and outside of the headband.

The only real complaint I have here is the complete lack of a water resistance rating. I feel like at this price it should at least include splash resistance or something similar.

Overall I rate the build quality 4.5/5. I was extremely impressed with the amount of metal on these headphones as well as the overall premium build quality. I do wish there was some minor water resistance though especially for the price of $79.99 but that is still a very minor complaint.

Noise cancellation

The noise cancellation on these headphones works pretty well. With ANC on about 85-90% of the background noise from things like My gaming PC fans, washing machine, AC is eliminated. While the ANC on these headphones doesn’t eliminate all sound when mixed with any sort of music or video it’s virtually impossible to hear any outside noise.

Overall I rate the ANC of these headphones 4/5. It works extremely well but doesn’t completely eliminate background noise so I couldn’t give it a 5/5.

Sound quality for music.

These were some of the great sounding headphones. For music the V207 was easily able to deliver some of the most powerful bass I’ve used, I could actively feel the headphones shaking on my head when listening to bass heavy songs even without any sort of bass boost turned on.

Even more surprising is how well it also handles the mids and highs in music, normally when headphones are great with bass the bass ends up overpowering everything else in a song but this isn’t true on the V207 headphones. On songs where bass wasn’t as much of a focus the mid and highs ended up coming out extremely clean and I could easily pick out the different parts of songs without anything else being overpowered, Even in genres where the bass was heavy, I could still focus on mids and highs with ease which is very impressive.

Overall I was extremely satisfied with how well these headphones performed when dealing with music, whether I was listening to bass heavy electronic music, the mid and high focused folk music genre or even the pure musical chaos that is death metal these headphones provided a clean and clear sound emphasising whichever components that the composers intended all without completely drowning out other parts of songs.

I rate the music performance 5/5. These headphones perform amazingly and I have no complaints with the music performance.

Sound quality for gaming

I used these headphones while gaming on my Nintendo Switch in portable mode and they worked extremely well. One major strength that these headphones have is the sound separation, in Fortnite the V207 did a great job providing an almost surround sound feel with sounds accurately corresponding with the action on-screen. For example, things coming from the rear but slightly sounded like they were behind me but over to the left.

Along with the impressive surround sound effect, these headphones also do a great job of reproducing game sounds, for example, explosions sound deep and powerful while gunshots sounded accurately high pitch and not as punchy.

Overall I rate the gaming performance 5/5. Even though these aren’t “gaming” headphones they do a great job with the task, I personally love how good the headphones are at separating sounds and accurately placing sounds within a 3D space.

Sound quality for movies and video.

When watching movies these headphones did a great job, I use one of the tank battle scenes in the movie Fury to test movie performance with all of the headphones I test and the V207’s were great. Just like with gaming these headphones do a great job separating heavy powerful sounds from less powerful ones, things like explosions and tank fire were powerful and you could almost feel rounds flying by and exploding. I also watched a decent number of YouTube videos and podcast on these headphones and things like talking managed to come through very clearly and the entire listening experience was extremely clean sounding.

Overall I rate the movie and video performance 5/5. The V207 headphones were great at delivering powerful explosions while also delivering crisp vocal performance.

Sound quality when used for phone calls

These headphones do a great job handling phone calls. I made a few different phone calls using these and never had issue issues understanding people on the other end and they never had any issues understanding me.

Overall I rate phone call performance 5/5. I had no issues when using these headphones for phone calls.

Microphone performance

The microphone on the V207 headphones performs very well, while it doesn’t perform as well as a dedicated microphone you won’t have any issues using the microphone during a multiplayer game or to record audio. Please see below for a recording taken with the V207.

Overall I rate the microphone performance 4/5. It won’t blow you away but it performs good enough that I can’t complain.

Miscalainous technical issues.

I did notice a couple of odd technical issues when using these headphones. The biggest one is when you are using these headphones and you have the ANC turned off there is a noticeable high pitched tone that constantly comes out of the headphones, oddly enough this high-pitched noise goes away completely when you turn ANC on so it isn’t a major issue but just keep this in mind if you ever plan on using these headphones with ANC off to save battery. The next and more minor issue I noticed is that ANC doesn’t work when you use these headphones while charging them, the high-pitched noise I mentioned above is also completely absent but adjusting the ANC switch has no effect on background noise, this also isn’t a huge issue since most people wouldn’t be actively using these headphones while they charged and the ear cups make a decent enough seal around your ears to block out a lot of noise naturally but it is still worth talking about.

Overall though none of these issues detract greatly from the overall score and quality of these headphones since they can be worked around by leaving ANC on when you use them.

Now, let’s move onto the final score and conclusion!
