Verdict and Conclusion
It’s now mid-2025, and we’re starting to see more and more PCIE Gen5 M.2 SSDs available on the market at affordable prices, which is great news for consumers. For Lexar, they’ve been a little slow in releasing their PCIE Gen5 models … but I guess it’s better late than never.
The Lexar NM1090 PRO PCIe 5.0 NVMe 2TB SSD supports the latest PCIE 5.0 interface, and uses 232-layer 3D TLC NAND chips to give you ultra high-speed data transfer. It also features both SLC Dynamic cache and 2GB of DRAM cache to improve performance. It’s available in capacities of 1TB, 2TB and 4TB options.

During our tests, the Lexar NM1090 PRO produced very good scores in all of our benchmarks. In our Crystalmark 16GB disk tests, it produced a Read speed of 12,286.89 MB/sec which is little lower than the advertised speed of 14,000 MB/s. For some reason, I wasn’t able to hit 14,000 MB/s … maybe I need to check the BIOS options to enable full PCIE lanes for the M.2 slots (will be to you on that).
For Write speeds, it reached a high of 12,943.09 MB/sec, which is close to their specified write speed of 13,000 MB/s, so I’m more than happy with that.
The Lexar NM1090 PRO doesn’t come with any heatsinks, so for cooling you need to use the M.2 heat shield that comes with the motherboard. It’s a MUST! Running the SSD without adequate cooling will damage the SSD and result in low performance.
